Hair Crownicles, a one-woman theater show chronicling her complex relationship with her hair throughout different years.
At a runtime of 1 hour and 42 minutes, this was the longest project I’ve ever edited. With the help of another editor (thanks Zak!), we were able to sequence the film. Color grading was interesting, because since it’s a theater show the temperature of the videos change as the lights change.
Remaining faithful to the theater show was imperative for both the sequencing and the color grade.
In addition to the multi-cam recording of the live theater show, there was a second recording without a crowd with more personal camera shots. It was important we blend these shots seamlessly to emphasize the performance and overall emotional impact.
